I don’t have a personal essay today. Just things I liked, sparked creativity, or moved me in some way.
Cleo Sol on faith and being present. I loved this conversation. She reflects with Zane Lowe on presence, channeling your gifts as vessels for good and something bigger than yourself, and the sanctity of music in a streaming era. A spiritual conversation, truly.
Broker and Monster both directed Hirozaku Kareeda. Both are such unique, compelling storylines that center around a pulsating plot built upon the dualities of human nature and connection.
A playlist inspired by a cozy, winter cocktail a la a Negroni, an Old Fashioned, anything with Amaretto. And of course, I have been loving the new Kendrick album, particularly Luther and TV Off. Oh, and this Bon Iver song. The perfect mix of melancholy and wistfulness.
I recently read Shadow of the Wind and Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. I’m reading The Wedding People now and it is funny—unfortunately have been caught cackling quite a few times while reading.
And, this time of the year is the best for stocking up on books for one of those random, indulgent days in between Christmas and and New Year’s where you have no idea what day it is and it doesn’t even matter. Some of the books I’m thinking about for this time: The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, The Nix by Nathan Hill, and There’s Always This Year: On Basketball and Ascension. Tell me what you are reading in the comments!!!
I stumbled across Atiya Walcott and her videos via another newsletter. She could have had me at “size 11 shoe recommendations” but her videos are also super soothe and help me get out of those [frequent] moments when I hate all of my clothes. I feel like she styles things in really unique ways that offer inspo to wear things you already have in new ways.
The Abercrombie essential sweatshirt is my new favorite item of clothing.
Need to try two salad recipes that two friends have recommended: Molly Baz’s “Cae Sal” and a lux kale salad.
That’s all I have for you this time. I’ll be back soon.
Xoxo
